Over the last two years, the proliferation of artificial intelligence (AI) in generating text, images, audio, and video has become widespread, with tools like ChatGPT and Midjourney gaining popularity worldwide. The surge in interest has prompted billions of dollars in investments aimed at advancing AI technology. However, the enthusiasm for AI varies across countries, as search data indicates.
Visual Capitalist Freny Fernandes, using data from ElectronicsHub, presents a graphic shedding light on the countries most intrigued by generative AI tools. ElectronicsHub identified the top 10 tools in each category based on global monthly search volumes, recording Google search volumes for each tool. The results were then scaled by population and Google’s search engine market share in each country.
According to the compiled data, the Philippines leads in search volume for generative AI tools, with Singapore and Canada following closely.
Generating Text with AI
Taking a closer look at the preferences of nations worldwide, generative AI tools, such as ChatGPT and QuillBot, are heavily sought after for various tasks, particularly in Asian countries like the Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, as well as Canada and the UAE. These tools have found applications in drafting emails and creating job application packages.
Generating Images with AI
The introduction of generative image AI tools like DALL-E 2, Midjourney, and Stable Diffusion has opened new avenues for storytelling. Israel and Singapore are leading the global interest in generative image AI, with Midjourney being the most-searched tool in 92 nations.
Generating Audio with AI
While generative AI in audio is still emerging, it has started making its mark, from voice-to-text transcription platforms to the music industry. Tools like FakeYou and VoiceGPT, enabling mimicry of celebrity and artist voices, are gaining popularity in South American nations like Uruguay, Chile, Argentina, and Peru.
Generating Video with AI
Despite the importance of videos in capturing audiences’ attention, generative AI’s video generation tools are not as advanced as other media tools. However, countries like Singapore and the UAE are leading in the search for video-generation tools like InVideo and Synthesia.
The world of generative AI is in its early stages, akin to how the printing press revolutionized information dissemination. As generative AI blurs the lines between reality and fiction, businesses and users aim to harness its full potential. At the same time, governments and lawmakers grapple with the challenges of regulating it to prevent potential drawbacks and misuse.
